I think calling it pay or salary is misleading. It is a stipend or consideration that the owner of the firm offrs the intern just to cushion the expenses incured. Many firms, private and parastatals i know offer some form of stipend just to be human not that the intern deserves it. Also there is a difference between an intern and an attachee. From previous internship experiences. Its very rare to come across someone who will train you well. Most people hate working with interns.....unless of-course you are a very fly intern(pun intended)
From where my school of thought internship has always been baptism by fire. You are given a hot potato to handle. Only person who feels to help you is someone on the job who experienced a bad internship and is willing to make your experience better.
To some people the experience helps them to connect to the real world. To others they do not understand why i am doing calculus I & II. and now i am expected to reset someones password and connect their keyboard and mouse.
IMHO. Internship is looking for cheap labor from Intelligent, innocent, fast learners with more than basic education who do not know their labor law rights.
Yeah, some organization tax the internship allowance for nssf, nhif and yes.... you are not a registered member :-)
Some do not insure you yet you are doing some risky @$$ work of setting up VSATs and Point to Point Radios.
Its my wish that one day organization will respect their right to mold and mentor future professionals

What i recon is as an intern you should be from a humble/ well of family.... afford to cater for your expenses as you are working. Transport, Meals.
So in short you tell your sponsors or parents you are working with no pay :-) then have the 10,000/= as your allowance
