I doubt "marketing" is the right word to describe the phenomenon. It's closer to a well-funded, grand corporate espionage guised as 'business intelligence' aimed at wrecking competition to get/tighten grip on consumers then monopolise on services and products, hard or soft, and wired or wireless. Activating agents all over critical public communications fora and departments?
Some of the antics employed as so crude sometimes one cannot help but laugh off, other times it borders on deliberate, selected persons or businesses communication isolation-remembering that interfering with one's communication is unconstitutional.
It gets very nasty when one considers the revenue digits involved/potential eyed..Consider far flung < http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/t...
It would be wise for us not to be dragged into their dominance/control warfare, because what we need is more competition that lowers prices and improves quality for you and everyone else, among and benefits thereof.
A while back, CEO one of local companies was reported in the Standard bragging about the existence of such a unit in their company. Later their headquarters reported that the unit was disbanded. I wonder whether or not it went more covert? What do the other companies run? Who check what they are up to?
Telecommunication Service providers had better realise its the new dawn of a new era of business practises, with several providers and where reputation and trust will determine their long-term success.
They had better style-up since "anti-competitive" behaviour is now illegal in here- or are they inviting investigations into their conduct. Then the writing is on the wall, "High Court Orders Mobile Company X, ISP Y or Softco Z investigated for anti-competitive practises."
Communication is the nerve system of any economy. The dangers of such practices, if established, bordering on Economic Crimes may mean losing their licenses (or jail terms?)What are the penalties?
To mitigate, industry-wise, US and Canada have Better Business Bureau <www.bbb.org> where business reputation is published -> loss of customers for crude-fashioned "cowboy" businesses.
The ICT Consumers Association has been working on an industry-led initiative involving willing providers towards establishing a framework similar to Better Business Bureau locally. I hope to later communicate on new and old companies that join.

Hello all,
I highly respect everyone in this forum and their opinions, however in the past few months I have been silently reading articles being circulated in this forum and am left wondering if some of us would adopt better ways of marketing their products and services in this forum.
Allow me to point out some of the most annoying marketing gimmicks; I have noticed, people bashing other respected companies complaining of this service and that not working but secretly fronting their solutions. I have read the thread on KDN services and it holds no water. Likewise I have noted the same with the Telcos.
Whereas we all deserve better if not best service from our vendors, I believe there are proper channels to present our grieviences to the concerned parties without involving everybody and mud slinging tactics. Some of the issues are trival and could be resolved in a phone call. If you want to sell or present your solution or if you are looking for a job and would like to market your skills, I would urge you to present such in a dignified manner. Mud slinging and name calling wouldn't take you far.
Kind regards, -- "Change is slow and gradual. It requires hardwork, a bit of luck, a fair amount of self-sacrifice and a lot of patience." .
