Guess they aren't strict about the reversal of transactions. In short, you shouldnt bank on them for your transactions at he moment, unless you register as a business. In fact that is one reason for safaricom to keep it that way.

Dennis, First, I must say that I am not official spokesman on this matter but I will try to answer based on my experience/interaction with M-PESA (I am a heavy consumer of this product)
If you send money to a wrong number (say 0710222222 when you were meant to send it to 0720222222), the customer care will examine the transaction, ask you a few questions and then reverse the transaction without having to talk to 0710222222. In any case, the MSG displayed will show owner's name. So, they will compare your the two nos and determine if your claim is actually true.
If you intended to withdraw but missed a certain digit in the agent ID, say if you wanted to withdraw in outlet 08102 (assume Uchumi Ngong Rd) but get a message telling you to collect your cash in Greenlight Meru, that is the same information you will give Customer care representative. Chances are, Greenlight Meru will have number which bears a striking similarity to that of Uchumi Ngong Rd e.g. 08210, 08201 etc. Customer care representative will get in touch with Greenlight Meru and if indeed they claim you took the money, they will be expected to read out your ID NO (since you should always present original ID during any transaction). Mostly, they will not guess it right and therefore the money will be reversed. If indeed you wanted to play tricks, they will be able to say your number right and therefore you wont get the money
The rule is, whoever requests for a reversal MUST demonstrate it was truly an erroneous transaction before customer care representative can either talk to the other person or take any action. Mostly, CCR will ask many question but this is intended to ensure they get the right infor before taking the next course of action
Any action taken, the system records the CCR who did that and therefore they dont joke around with this.
We have studied this product and I can assure you as at now, it is extremely secure - besides, there is a dedicated fraud team that is continously studying all the tricks crooks can use and thereby sealing them.

@ Dennis, H{Sh}e is employed to give good news to the consumers even if it is a lie. How many times has one called customer care of any of our telcos, to be told the matter you are calling about will be attended in a couple of minutes only to call again and be told it has not been addressed yet. Ask exhaustively before pointing an accussing finger. Alternatively, give us his email and we shall ask him a million questions!
