Some experience I had with Barclays - There was a time they deducted about 50k from my account claiming its a loan repayment, and I had no loan at that time since my previous loan was fully paid back about 6 months earlier. They did accept the transaction was done wrongly, but it took me 21 working days to get back the money in my account. I thought this was a one-off, but after some time, I heard about 3 people going the same way, with someone having to wait about 36 days for a reversal of a wrong transaction. And I have some series of misfortunate events with Barclays that I can only give individually :-(
I have never tried NIC, but after I looked up their shareholding structure and found out that the majority shareholder is Barclays, I kept off.

I think NIC is worth a mention. It's been bliss since i moved about a yr ago. here is the 800Ksh per month charge, just like stanchart, but now the queues are almost non-existent, very quick service. They are very tight on the whole fraud thing, no assumptions. Only problem so far is the number of ATMs and branches which are very few even within the CBD.

And the straw that broke the camel's back..they couldn't give me a loan when I needed one. Something that stanchart did and only required that I open an account with them once the loan was approved. In 48 hours none the less.In my opinion, Barclays need to make up their mind if they are competing with Stanchart or Equity. And BTW Stanchart allow you to borrow less than Barclays because they don't want you to overcommit yourself and end up hating your life...and they are planning to introduce an SLA where if say your loan is delayed, they pay you for the inconvenience. In short they care about their customers more than the average bank does. I could go on and on but like I said.....
