I haven't used Windows Phone 8 - running 7.8 on a Lumia. Generally, the experience has been satisfying. I suppose the issues I've faced are "first generation problems". My worry, from experience, is that Microsoft takes too long to fix bugs and release features, to the point where Nokia has to actively develop Lumia exclusives to make the platform competitive with iOS and Android. Take a look at the user feature requests here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions My single biggest issue with it is the lack of proper USSD support. If you want to do mobile banking, you have to take the SIM card out and use another phone (this is something which worked on any self-respecting mobile phone). I think the problem was such a turn off in South Africa, that this app (emDial <http://balefyre.co.za/emdial/>) had to be developed. Thankfully, USSD is now now fixed in WP8. Frankly, I think Microsoft should increase the frequency of their release cycles. I think Apple really excels in this - every major update is laden with tons of features (from the keynotes I've seen in the past). So, yeah, the platform is great. The release and upgrade cycle is its undoing. On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, Martin Gicheru wrote:
While you get feedback on HTC, the second close option is the Lumia 920 which I am currently using, Nokia has done amazing things with this phone, design and software add-ons. Price for this is 54k and is available in several retailers, I bet Fonexpress and Safaricom shops are already selling. Mid range Lumia 820 is selling at 45k, just incase you want a cheaper option, same stores.

I have been advised by a Microsoft evangelist to go for this one - http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_windows_phone_8x-4975.php and I believe him. Anyone know where I can get it and damage to my wallet?

Just looking at it scares me :-)
I love the Nokia Belle look and the HTC Sense.
Most Windows users want the "start" button... ama?

This is strange evangelism, coming from a iPerson :-)
Well, perhaps you start from gsmarena.com and compare the various Windows Phone 8 models available, then make a choice. After that you can start looking for them in Nairobi. Nokia Lumia, HTC are options you can loot at. Midcom, Fonexpress, etc are suppliers.

Windows 8 phones are going to be that breakthrough MS needed on this front - maybe its just marketing that is swaying me. I need testimonies from those who have used it and also advice on what is the best high end Win8 phone handset and where to get one
