Open Data Barometer report launched Today we're launching our latest report from the ODDC project, jointly with the World Wide Web Foundation and Open Data Institute - the Open Data Barometer. Covering 77 countries, the Barometer reports that 55% of countries surveyed have open data initiatives in place, yet less than 10% of key government datasets across the world are truly open to the public. Highlights from the last month are found below: * Silvana Fumega presented at the 3rd Global Transparency Conference on the Opening the Cities case study of Buenos Aires (PDF). * Sumandro Chattapadhyay has been presenting on open data in India at the ICEGov conference, and participating in the Internet Governance Forum, exploring how internet governance and open data intersect. * The Jesuit Hakimani Trust have recently published a study on civic participation across Kenya, including a discussion of engagement with the national open data portal. * INESC in Brazil have launched the 'Budget at my fingertips' platform aimed at visualising the budget in a more friendly way. * The Web Foundation are co-chairing the newly launched Open Data Working group of the Open Government Partnership. ReadRecent books, papers, reports & presentations to provide inspiration and insight. Based on a survey of Entrepreneurs, Erik Lakomaa and Jan Kallberg argue that open data can act as a foundation and catalyst of innovation across the private sector, and that the value of open data is often underestimated. Ben Worthy reflects on the publication of local government spending data in the UK in a recent talk at the Open Data Institute. Samuel S Lee and Felipe Estefan have published a draft for comment of their study on The Demand for Open Financial Data. Seen a paper or report on open data we should know about?
