Greetings Daniel, The election is open to all the members, the election modalities were inadvertently excluded from the Notice. However they are below: Eligibility to vote 1. One should be registered as an isoc member globally 2. He/she should also be a member of the Kenyan chapter Eligibility to be hold office 1. A paid up member 2. Above 18 years of age 3. Has been a member for at least 6 months 4. Have demonstrated interest and understanding of ISOC issues 5. The idea of paid membership was discussed a while ago. Its documented. However i would personaly like to see individual submitions with an objective ie for the chaptor for next 2 yrs. We all know what the chairmans responsibilities are (i use chairman as an example, should apply to all positions) however what more can you do or do better than just the responsibilities. What do you bring to the team ? Why you? Whats your track tried tested etc. we must vet this individuals just like a coporate would if at all we have to run this proffesionaly. If isoc is to stand the test of times then we must get it right as we clear candidates this is the first step to an open indipendent profitable and life and impact on society oriented chaptor. We should hold elections where members feel they have got the right people, are well represented and the elections should be seen to be free and fair. I don't see why anybody should be opposed to transparency. And even if a physical meeting took place, that does not negate online discussions where most members are present. Indeed online meetings and discussions are an acceptable way of reaching consensus. Isn't Internet Society all about using the internet as a tool for change and development? For example, 1. who is monitoring info@isoc.or.ke? 2. Is the electoral commissioner receiving the nominations at info@isoc.or.ke also a candidate? 3. Do we have a verifiable list of local ISOC Chapter members? 4. Do we have a list of verifiable paid up members with proof of payment instruments? 5. Is the payment instruments only in monitory terms or can it be through support of chapter activities? For example, some member sponsored the domain for the 2013 IGF, while another member did the website for the IGF. 6. Who are eligible to vote? Do we have a list of eligible voters? 7. Must all voters be physically present at the AGM or can members vote online? Let us all come together and take the local ISOC Chapter to new heights. Kivuva, I agree with you on that No. 1 and No.2 also an important fact is that the nominated officials who are interested should be public so that you know how to campaign and sell good policies and ideas which will take the chapter stride ahead. Hi kivuva, listers To answer some of your questions. Im the one managing info@isoc.or.ke and im not vying for any position. Im yet to recieve nominations from members. The elections will be free n fair, ill publish the list of nominees on this this list as we approach the elections. Once a member has been nominated I will ask for a statement of interest from thr person before adding him/ her to the list. The minutes of members' meeting are ussually published on the list for further contributions even from members who did not attend. So feel free to go through them and contribute. The chapter has an AMS portal with a list of all the registered members and their ISOC reg numbers managed by the interim chair n vice chair. It will be published in the course of the week. The issue of membership fees came up when we were registering the society under the AG. In the first meeting after isoc_ke being chartered, members agrees to contribute ksh.500 for registration purpose, thos contribution was also to be considered as membership fee. Must all voters be physically present at the AGM or can members vote online?

Thanks Barrack, Liz, and Daniel for the contributions. Since there have never been any election, every member who meets the ISOC bylaws is entitled to his democratic right to vie. The officials that have been in office have been interim and only in acting capacity therefore it's logical that they be allowed to vie for one term. After all, it's the members who will decide who to lead them. Going forward, office holders will only be required to run for one term, then pave way for other leaders to take the helm of the chapter. A chapter that infuses new blood, new ideas, and diversity is set for greater heights. Barrack, Yes because i was seeing the officals receiving the nominations of which they also submiting theres and hence participating in the said election is equal to no transparency.In that case i was for the establishment of a committee to oversee the election not interim officials. What do you bring to the team ? Why you? Whats your track tried tested etc. we must vet this individuals just like a coporate would if at all we have to run this proffesionaly.
If isoc is to stand the test of times then we must get it right as we clear candidates this is the first step to an open indipendent profitable and life and impact on society oriented chaptor.

Since there have never been any election, every member who meets the ISOC bylaws is entitled to his democratic right to vie. The officials that have been in office have been interim and only in acting capacity therefore it's logical that they be allowed to vie for one term. After all, it's the members who will decide who to lead them.
Going forward, office holders will only be required to run for one term, then pave way for other leaders to take the helm of the chapter. A chapter that infuses new blood, new ideas, and diversity is set for greater heights.

Must all voters be physically present at the AGM or can members vote online?

Well put Mwendwa, The interim office holders have played their role in bringing the Society to where it is. It is within the right of the membership to determine the future of the Chapter and elect leaders of their choice, chapter bylaws will determine their eligibility and members will choose, hence we encourage more members to come forward and apply for the available positions. Must all voters be physically present at the AGM or can members vote online?
