This means that if you break any traffic laws (jump lights, make u-turns, wrong turns, overtaking in restricted areas, entering through no entry areas or pick at the wrong points) your vehicle registration plate will be captured by the camera and a warrant of arrest can be issued. The cameras are never turned off hence do not be fooled by low traffic, early morning or late night hours, weekends, Sundays and public holidays. Please note that since there will be a camera record of all these acts, a not guilty plea in court may not stand. You are expected to familiarize yourself and obey all traffic laws. Also please inform all your family, friends and other colleagues.

We were joking about this the other day. If you know you may commit a traffic offence, the *best *you can do is paste a fake number plate using a hard paper then you are good to go.... when the camera zooms on the plates. Only that if you are caught, you will have to answer to double offences. On a serious note, that is a good move, and I hope the area around Kencom has such lens in place. +5 THIS. A big "IF", since there is no-one on-location to check/verify. I smell a market for fake number plates. I once suffered a small collision, and my front number-plate had to be hammered straight, ending with a few tears on the edges. During unrelated visits to a few garages later, several mechanics offered to replace my tattered plate with a shiny new one. Pop on a plate with your annoying neighbors'/boss/ex registration, drive around town making all kinds of wrong turns, and they are in for a surprise. This will happen. @Oliver, sometimes the police really do have to step in and "micro-manage". You see, the lights are timed for fixed periods, based on average traffic density. They do not adapt to <CURRENT> traffic density. When traffic is exceptionally heavy, the average timings cannot adequately manage to clear the roads. Inevitably, gridlocks are created. clicked "send" too soon. I may be biased to the 5 roundabouts I cross every morning and evening, but it seems the police actually do let the lights work independently - most of the time. There is almost always a cop or 2 at the intersection, but not directing traffic. They only step in during early mornings and evenings - when traffic increases. On a serious note, that is a good move, and I hope the area around Kencom has such lens in place.

For your information:
Please note that the traffic cameras within the Nairobi CBD are now operational.

In theory it's a step in the right direction... However, my biggest worry is whether the Cameras and the equipment will survive vandals and all.. They have already hit Thika Superhighway by damaging the lighting (check the left side @ Pangani heading out of town), and darkening the foot bridges(Ngara, KIE, Pangani, Muthaiga, etc...). A statement that has just been sent to our office
*All,*
For your information:
Please note that the traffic cameras within the Nairobi CBD are now operational.
