just trying the "shibboleet" trick to see if i can get some great tech-support from butterfly... hope it works.... so i've been calling tech-support for the last [1,2...3,4..] 7 WEEKS trying to get butterfly wifi up again. 7!! .... and its weird coz their same infrastructure carries *another* wireless network at this place [ loopnet ], which is fully functional and FREE.. but well, you cant expect something free to be fast and reliable... not in kenya at least. loopnet is now sufficiently crowded and beat up... ... and there are so many of us here ready to pay for butterfly wi-fi again... the thing used to be fast and conviniently everywhere and did i mention how fast it was [i got so used to the 400kBps that 3G felt slow and sooo last year] btw.... am not sure my emails to skunkworks are getting broadcast to everyone else.... if you're a skunk and can read this, any kind of reply would e re-assuring

you will know f you have been here long enough that kdn dropped butterfly, along with many of their retail products like a hot potato. It is meant to be managed by swiftglobal. I have no idea what the status is but so far my contacts at swift are not ready to support it. On Sat, Oct 16, 2010 at 8:42 AM, SkunkWorks KU Followers < skunkworks.ku@gmail.com> wrote:

thanks for the replies skunks... now i know my emails get broadcast :D so yeah, got wind of the transfer of small-time ISP business from KDN to swift, but from my dealings with butterfly, I had the picture that butterfly was kinda like a sub-company.... more than a mere department at KDN [or swift] anyway, i've always got someone on their tech-support line [020-5000002]. been calling them for the last 6-7 weeks, explaining the problem, and they give me the usual "i'll inform the engineers, and get back to you soonest... bla bla bla".... and they barely ever do... btw.... forgot to mention that the problem is at KU, main campus. the butterfly network is still active [as in it gets listed as a wireless network on ur comp], but once you connect to it, it wont supply any DHCP data, so you basically stay in the dark. used to happen a lot last semester, but it would normally take an hour or two for it to get fixed after reporting it to their tech-support... but its been a few days since i tried to connect to it... i'll check kesho, see how it goes. good day skunks.
