[skunkworkslist] Re: [skunkworkslist] Re: inZain tarrif

@collins do record it and upload while you're at it! :D I believe right now safcom has taken a wait-and-see approach...they must be watching their daily graphs keenly for any unexpected dips. If it's anything substantial, zain will get a reply. This could be in form of their usual time-limited promos to test the waters, though that is still hanging in the air given zain's offer which they say has no T&C applied. I read somewhere (Nation I think) MJ boasting that they could unleash their own EMP i.e. price it at 1 bob per min and kill everyone else. I doubt that would really happen, since voice still commands the biggest chunk of their revenues - even though it has had the most sluggish growth compared to their other revenue segments. They wouldn't want to get their shareholders irritated... All I can say for now is this: Safcom's bullish streak is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and they had better come up with something radical to keep those numbers up. I strongly doubt their current menu of goodies will provide the same results in the long run. Airtel has just fired the first salvo...who knows how many nukes they have yet to rain... -- Posted By Open Job List to skunkworkslist at 8/18/2010 10:37:00 AM

Postpaid affirmative. 3bob calls and 1 bob texts. By the time safcon realize what is happening, masses will have moved. Airtel will treat the difference in interconnect rates as marketing cost...which (they hope) will pay off in the long run. 'Going green is not always the better option!' Teiye; Why drag Safaricom into the price wars with a "going green in not always the better option"? Isn't Kencell getting back to the obvious stupid habits of yesteryear that led to their downfall? They should leave the giant alone while they undercut him, otherwise they'll be crushed, MJ said it - he can undercut everyone by charging the lowest if every operator thinks they are engaged in monopolistic tendencies. And they innovate or die afterwards. /.0721586109// On Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 11:06 AM, Ken Teyie <kenteyie@gmail.com> wrote:

@Osotsi, have you seen the Zain Ad on page 27 in today's nation? it reads 'Going green is not always the better option!' they dragged safaricom into the price war! Lets wait and see, hope they have a better strategy this time its Airtel not Kencell! Think Airtel has been in the game before in India so cant rule them out yet though market dynamics will tell. guys, why do you think have they gone on the offensive? I bet its cause Airtel is no tom dick and harry, and safaricom compared to them is ... ummmh, how do i put it? a speck. Airtel has 130M subscribers in India alone, last year they added 11 million. Me thinks the real giant is poking around to make sure everyone knows who the pant wearer this time around is. My money's on Airtel this time around. On Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 11:54 AM, Ken Teyie <kenteyie@gmail.com> wrote:

I've been using Celtel Kenya Limited (thats who the cheques go to) for the last 5 years. Their services have been better and cheaper all along, but they cant seem to communicate this to the masses. They should shout that they are cheaper, instead of having a school girl singing "Malaika..." in the toilet. Vuka tarrif was exciting till it was quietly dropped off. I hope Airtel can bring a new name in the branding and in perception of the public as well. 2010/8/18 Ken Teyie <kenteyie@gmail.com>

@David & Peter: Everyone is entitled to his own opinion...whether you like it or not this price war is going to get bloody. Safaricom is in Airtel's crosshairs, and judging by their recent spending in the Indian market it is evident they do have the arsenal to wage war if they wish to do so. The question is who goes down first. I know there are some who have an almost fanatical devotion to safcom but I really don't care...at the end of the day its all about bang for buck for me. ;)

Me thinks they want Sufferincon to reduce their prices to a level its not profitable to them, then Kencell will engage in a bloody price war across all sufferingcons productlines. Yaani, they want to reduce safcoms advantage and then they hit big time. I think Safaricom will almost immediately hit back with their own offer, just like in 2003-2004 season of red and green offers. Green wins, just like we discovered on August 5th. /.0721586109// On Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 12:04 PM, Haggai Nyang <haggai.nyang@gmail.com>wrote:
