Embrace social. Infact, force them to spend time on your company's social pages and comment and interact. Then see how much Facebooking they'll do. On Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 3:19 PM, Kinuthia Ngugi <kinuthia.ngugi@gmail.com>wrote:

The only way to do it on the router is use access control lists (ACL's) but that is so basic since they can be bypassed, the best way is to use a proxy like advised to, for browsing control. ./TheMburu On Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 3:32 PM, William Warero <wwarero@gmail.com> wrote:

I am not so good with Windows Group Policy Objects, but I have a strong feeling that if you were using GPOs, you could easily set any sites/domains you do not want people to access to point to 127.0.0.1 on their machines by pushing a common hosts file (%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts). If that is not the case, then as you've been advised, setup a transparent proxy on the LAN and restrict access to these sites. Having been in such a situation before, my advise is that you should not entirely block the sites but rather limit access to them to certain times of the day. For instance, you could allow access from midnight to 0900, then from 12:59 - 13:59, and finally from 1700 to 0900. Between those times, some stuff who carry lunch or those who don't have a good reason to do lunch can get their FB at lunch time, or they can check into the office at 0600 and do FB till 0900. One last advise though: Phones have become cheap and the diehards will use their phones to browse. It's even more time-wasting. My general feeling is that if every staff have got their KRAs and KPIs, it doesn't matter whether they access FB because the time for reckoning is there during performance evaluations, ama ni aje? Accessing FB is not is a question of the bandwidth you have that it consumes. I was a proponent of letting it all open but now since I work where there is limited bandwidth, I have to restrict, just like Wash says, the timings, not entirely - and you get amazed on your bandwidth savings :-) ./Ok3ch On Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 4:58 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:
