Skunks The other day I bought a relatively fairly priced Android Phone for my wife at 13,000 and after a few days of working with it, looks miles ahead of my Nokia Phone that cost me 50k. It seems like all app developers are leaning towards Iphone or Android apps Nowadays. In my honest opinion Android is likely to be the mass market platform of the future and will considerably reduce the barrier for the masses to access high end smartphones at low prices. The Graph below should be a scary trend for apple and RIM ( don't know about OVI at this point) Apple seems to be having a slow growth, RIM is declining while Android is growing like crazy. If I were Nokia, I would definitely go the Android route. [image: BlackBerry November2010 Android Closing in on BlackBerry U.S. Market Share [Study]]

wait till manufacturers (like LG intend to) start producing phones that have DUO CORE. Soon phones will become ubiquitous and it will just be about which OS you are running, more like computers nowadays. Such a simple concept and this time around google are cashing in by having something that looks good (like windows then) and free (like linux then and today). such a shame nokia and the rest never thought of this early enough to invest time and effort. I did buy an Android device - Samsung Galaxy 5 and personally, its disappointing as compared to my iPhone. My first rant was the lack of a virtual qwerty keyboard and the virtual keypad is a serious turnoff, and the OS isn't smooth like the iOS, so to the fans, I still think Android has a long way to usability - much like the Symbian and iOS ./Ok3ch On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 2:20 PM, Kevin Ouma <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

@Ndungi - you may know that you can download and install, but here I was coming in as a user and have no idea - I agree I may have alot of bias towards iOS, but what I needed was a second functional phone and decided it to be an android - User's will not be won over when such bariers exist, that is why the Symbian is still the most successful OS in Africa & Micro$oft is the most popular desktop OS ./Ok3ch On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 2:33 PM, Ndungi Kyalo <ndungi@gmail.com> wrote:

This is Ok for users but what about developers? Which route would they "bank" on? Interesting read here: http://goo.gl/hEwAS Whiteafrican puts it plainly: *"While, as a developer, it’s a lot more sexy to work on the cutting edge operating systems like iOS and Android you’d be making a mistake to do that in Africa. Unless you’re developing apps that are global in scale or you’re doing client work, you should be focusing on Symbian (or Samsung’s Bada OS in some countries). It’s where the numbers are."* It would be intersting to get developers views on this... ./Bernard On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 3:00 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

i think the data that eric uses to draw his conclusion is in numbers of guys that have accessed the net, look at the age bracket, look at the demographic. In fact i am convinced that if we all did apps for these dual sim chinese phones we would still hit a larger audience than IOS and android. But then again, android got there first with the deals they are cutting at that end of the market. The beauty of android is that any phone developer can adopt the platform, from China to River Road to Rio Granted iOS will always have the edge as Apple control both the hardware and software. However, at least for higher end phones, chances are that android based phones will continue to gain market share rapidly and possibly emerge as market leader. Meanwhile, what should constitute 5 useful considerations for 1) Smart phones 2) 'Dumb' phones (For lack of a better word) -> Affordability -> Usability -- Josiah Mugambi 2011/1/4 Collins Areba <arebacollins@gmail.com>

@Okechukwu Usability is personal preference and we are all different, the fact that you did not like an Android is fine, though filtered through your expectation. I have been having an Android based fone since Sept 2009 can I can't dream of changing. What we expect and what the UI does seldom match. @Kevin try out different fones, do your research and go for it.
