@Kiania - I wouldn't say so. Safaricom was KDN's largest customer before Al Tech took over. I'm more inclined to agree with @Mark. I have never seen another company piss off virtually everyone in it's ecosystem. Suppliers were complaining (Soliton), customers (legal tussle with Essar) along with employees (remember all the leaks). On Tue, Jan 29, 2013 at 12:31 PM, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:

I am a bit disappointed by the direction major Kenyan IT firms take once the get taken over by South African firms. I still remember dial-up pioneer Africa Online and how vibrant it once was in the pre-fiber internet era. I always thought they had a lot of potential owing to them being early in the market and the first to lock-up major dial up customers. Upon take-over by the South Africans, their fortunes dwiddled and their brand has completely disappeard. I am told they still offer service. Now the story of KDN could be different. I am not sure their business strategy was right from the beginning. Targeting wholesale circuit sales seemed always risky, as the corporate market had not developed. I have always though most of the initial KDN owner businesses seemed to have been driven by good political connections and captical in the old regime, and later with the absence of that the businesses such a Kencell/Celtel/Zain/Airtel/<newcompanyname[String]> Sameer, Swift Global, KDN and even the empty Sameer business park struggled.

Such a pity with these South Africans who think they have better dreams and visions for the rest of "efrica" On Tue, Jan 29, 2013 at 3:36 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

There is a reason the media has coined the term 'In Sub-Sahara Africa outside of South Africa."

I still lremember the rude email sent to all customers by KDN just after the South African takeover saying that any customer with less than 4MB contracted was not a corporate and was being transferred immediately to Swift Global (remember them?) Does Swift Global still exist? I remember their pilipili advert a few years back, and since then no more "heard" from them. Which market segment do they serve? It's sad that we don't hear from them these days, only left in the hands of a few BIG players. On Tue, Jan 29, 2013 at 5:25 PM, Brian Munyao Longwe <blongwe@gmail.com>wrote:

I think it is a superiority complex that is rather bewildering to me. Wananchi group has south african shareholding no? But they seem to be doing fine and I am a satisfied customer so far. I say let them crash and burn. The little money they spend will help. They trained personell, paid tax etc so its not a total loss.
