M-Pesa - Is it "up" now??

Is the M-Pesa service up and running again guys? Unless I am mistaken, it's been down since Friday last week. Ama all of you are on Zap? I did not know how much folks have come to rely on M-Pesa until I had to drive some 50km to pick money by hand:-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

@ Odhiambo, that driving some 50 km ro get some cash reminds me of the good old days. Hahaha! I'm not sure whether M-Pesa is working though. ZAP is my platform! 2009/8/10 Odhiambo ワシントン <odhiambo@gmail.com>

Hehee, a friend of mine did an "mouth-Pesa" when he got stuck. He'd agreed with a pal in Karatina to send him money via M-Peas (yes! I type it this way all the time). Pal went to an M-Peas shop, found system down, and because they trust the operator, left the money with the operator. That was Saturday morning. Sunday morning and the system is still down. My friends calls another of his friends who is in Karatina but also has an office in Nairobi. The guy goes to the M-Peas shop, talks to the attendant who then gives him all the money meant for my friend. He then calls his Nairobi office and gives instructions that my pal be given the equivalent amount. And it happened! In what you've called "the good old days" (If I may call it), all that was needed was "trust" to get money across. You'd give someone traveling upcountry some chumes to take to your folks there and it got there. Bus-jackings were never there so noone feared losing what they had. Not sure anyone would still be willing to do that in this age of M-Peas and Zap:-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Sometimes i really wonder why human nature is so negative. M-Pesa has its challenges, technical and otherwise, e.g. systems are down sometimes, you have to walk to 3 shops because the first 2 dont have float.. Some of these challenges should be addressed, and i would like to believe that Safaricom is addressing these. M-pesa however, is a phenomenon. I compare it to what the internet did to computers, its that huge. And it has a huge impact, hence the reason >6m subscribers are on it. I remember a time i had to queue at KPLC offices playing brick game (Tetris) for 2 hours in order to pay Electricity. Now, it takes me 5 minutes to pay my bill. It works 95% of the time for me.. the other 5% of the time, the previous alternatives are still workable. I would rather wait. On another note.. from experience.. is it that M-pesa has grown too fast, than anticipated, and reliability is becoming an issue? Tito. 2009/8/10 Odhiambo ワシントン <odhiambo@gmail.com>

Biggest problem is that this is what you want to believe - yet you are supposed to demand value for your money. 5% downtime is unacceptable. Service levels should be in the range of 99.5% - 99.98% beyond this is no longer a service. KPLC - I still pay this at my ATM, though I have the services of Zap also to do it - this is not really a good example to make me go ga-ga about mpesa. ./Ok3ch 2009/8/10 Njoroge Tito <titonjoroge@gmail.com>
