I have been using vnc but its too cumbersome. I can't maximise/minimise and can't use the menu bar for the windows. What other options are out there?

What would you like to do on the remote desktop? Support the dude(tte) on the other end? Try TeamViewer<http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx?os=linux>for Linux!
