PRSPs silently robbing airtime off unsuspecting Safaricom clients

PRSPs have a way of silently subscribing you to your services and billing you without notifications. Safaricom believes these chaps are innocent, letting them get away with the robbery. Read my account below http://blog.denniskioko.com/2013/07/how-safaricom-clients-are-being-robbed.h...

But how did you even get subscribed in the first place, plus it's very hard to know you are subscribed if there are no SMS notifications for every billing. On 20 Jul 2013 15:56, "Bernard Mwagiru" <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Brian, that is really hash. I don't believe some of these stories. Excuse my ignorance. Can the PRSP subscribe you to a paid service through a webform and Safaricom starts deducting your airtime for every sms you receive from the PRSP? If it was that simple, a crook would just subscribe every existing number from 0700-000000 to 0799-999999 through the said web form -- ______________________ Mwendwa Kivuva twitter.com/lordmwesh kenya.or.ke | The Kenya we know

I've seen those sites. There is small print saying you will be subscribed to a text sms service at premium rates. It is entirely your fault if you enter your number and start receiving text messages. No one to blame but yourself. And I still think it was silly. On Tue, Jul 23, 2013 at 8:50 PM, Kivuva <Kivuva@transworldafrica.com> wrote:

In most cases I've come across there is usually a confirmation code which is sent to the number and you are asked to enter it on the website. On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, Dennis Kioko wrote:

Then there must be a way PRSPs have gotten of robbing people. In my case, no texts was ever received from the robbers

Probably somebody is working with somebody inside those telcos. This is a serious case, and I wish those few strange happenings can be discussed in the upcoming Internet Governance Forum. Pardon me, but I still don't believe it's possible to be subscribed without you engaging your SIM card in accepting the offer. If that was not the case, then you are sitting on a goldmine. I recently encountered a case where someone did nothing to enter a code in any website and was subscribed. My sister-in-law who lives out of the country bought a SIM card 2 weeks ago and her airtime kept disappearing with these SMS's appearing. We went to Customer Care center at Sarit and she had to be unsubscribed from six of these short codes - and no explanation was given for a new SIM card all of a suddenly subscribing to all those services. ./Ok3ch Sent from my iPad On Jul 23, 2013, at 22:15, Kivuva <Kivuva@transworldafrica.com> wrote:

@ Brian In my defense - sometimes i like to test to see if something is really true... In this case - i wanted to find out how they could actually deliver an iPad - or they would tell me to send "shipment" - or it would say "this only applies to citizens of USA" Imagine the surprise when the message came from Safaricom.

First of all, God bless one Bernard Mwagiru, his children and their children(amen) So after doing *200# and unsubscribing from all , i find that I was subscribed to 5 PRSPs!!!!! some i have no idea how i got subscribed and was wondering how to deal with it when they have no office contacts displayed anywhere. I had been trying to stop then, calling, sending smses and i would just keep getting ringtone and funny smses. But now im unsubscribed from all of them....im even afraid of checking out my bill..... It has happened to me though not on QB but Airtel. I receive a call with a rather short looking number +2547xx. I pick it and some voice-over goes on and on about Fashion Alerts (for Christ's sake, who needs premium services on how to dress!). Now annoyed, I disconnect the call and immediately receive a text that I have been subscribed.Thinking it's a joke, I immediately go back to something more important (than fashion). The next day I receive a silly fashion tip, On day two, I get another one I decide to check my airtime balance and realize I am being deducted KES 10.00 on a daily basis. That's how easy it is for a PRSP to get your money without you even subscribing. Mugo On Wed, Jul 24, 2013 at 4:06 PM, charles kungu <charles.kungu@gmail.com>wrote:
