Reversing the trend, Dr Wasunna said, required increased awareness campaigns to encourage people to embrace testing for early diagnosis. http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Corporate%20News/Lobbyists%20push%20for%2... I think the App would could create a one time registration and a monthly alert of awareness? Me thots.

Wait, why not schedule Google Calendar to SMS you an alert very month? works with all phones ....

Thanks Dennis. Maybe the Good Doctor in the article should get an email from this community and tell her there already exists ways. PRSP could also get into this with some hope of creating something at a later stage. Call the service Cancer Alert or breakdown into various different Cancer Alerts and one can subscribe to the relevant one. Any Mobi Devs for the taking? This situation to me seems like what a national application can do. :-) Rgds. On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 8:32 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

They can also get an app built off Google apps with more functionality, If I am not wrong. I have not looked much into the third party apps built off Goggle apps, but from what i have seen, they can have immense functionality

@Dennis, I think we should put together something workable and taking your google apps idea further, it seems if we are out of options to do anything currently ( the most frustrating thing ) , then I see the Safaricom/Google SMS initiative being the interim solution. However, I don't know anyone in either of the orgaizations and my mail address will probably be spammed before getting to any destination. If there are people on this list who know, kindly pass on this information. Sitting back and doing nothing means probably another kenyan will have woken up today and not know they may become a statistic. Yet, we have the technology and the services. Any Mobile Monday developers on this list who think they could build a national app as a project? Me thots. Asante. On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 9:24 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Not that, the one at http://www.google.com/apps/ has a fully fledged calendar with SMS/Email alert to any network in the world. All is needed is to integrate with the NGO's day to day applications with a few scripts.

@Dennis, I think NGOs tend to work within certain budgets, so they possibly have zonal impact rather than national. Maybe things like Kenya Medical Board, The Major hospitals, Medical Professional bodies etc. This would fit long term with a mobile app and platform. I tried to get the email address of the author of the article, but a js error pops up. I think he/she needs to do a follow up article on the available technology options that are already there to help further the cause of such awareness. I hope some of us can contribute to such an article if its possible. Rgds. On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 10:03 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

After having failed to get the email address of the author, I've sent an email to the general bd mail account, addressed to the editor. I've also suggested that Kui Kinyanjui ( the Tech Writer ) to possibly do a follow up article. Hopefully they will take up the feedback. Rgds.

Final contribution to thread. I got a reply from Madam Kui Kinyanjui of BD who confirmed she will be doing an article. Great stuff, at least some more awareness for the less aware in other sectors. I also hope there is some remote chance for mobile developers to develop the Cancer Alert into an application. Rgds. Out. :-)
