Please note that Google is purchasing Motorola Mobility( not Motorola) for US $12.5 billion in cash. This acquisition has obvious reasons: Patents. Apple has won a patent court case against HTC and Samung Galaxy sales will be blocked in Europe soon(if not already). Google will build a strong patent base by acquiring Motorola. To most people, Motorola Mobility is Motorola given its the branch dealing with consumer electronics

I don´t understand why Android is seen as a Google platform. What I see is that Android is a product of the Open Handset Alliance, of which Google is a member? Someone please shed some light? On Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 4:56 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

It's because Google controls many important pieces of Android. They own the Android trademark, and certify devices for "compatibility" compliance, before allowing manufacturers to use it. They also own the Android Market service, and restrict access to it, to compatibility-compliant devices. And they largely control the Android Open Source Project.

Maybe I see this differently, but I see this acquisition giving a lifeline to Nokia-Microsoft partnership. I see not a total, but kind of small revolt from the Samsung & HTC's of this world from Android, and giving a leeway for Nokia-Microsoft to join Apple & Google as being the real determinants of the mobile industry. ./Ok3ch On Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 1:56 AM, Joseph Wayodi <jwayodi@gmail.com> wrote:

well apparently its true Google is just after the patents to avoid the HTC/Samsung issues currently happening (hope apple chokes on an apple) they are a total of 17000 i think and 7000 more pending and motorola won a few against apple ... but here is the rest of the story google will still pay motorollla if deal doesnt go through<http://www.neowin.net/news/google-to-pay-motorola-25-billion-if-deal-doesnt-go-through> and android is no more open source as windows sofware ... once again the whole story they have violated a few GPL things :)<http://www.neowin.net/news/majority-of-android-oems-lose-linux-distribution-rights>and for real Motorola is going down <http://www.neowin.net/news/insider-claims-google-bought-a-dysfunctional-motorola>....and now you know On Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 10:25 AM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:
