If you know of anyone who has completed an ICT related graduate program in the last two years please send them here, www.digitaltalent.go.ke and www.icta.go.ke. 400 intern slots available GOVERNMENT SEEKS 400 ICT GRADUATES The government has kicked off the recruitment of 400 fresh ICT graduates, who will go through intense training to manage ICT systems in state agencies and ministries. The graduates will be absorbed by the annual Presidential Digital Talent Programme, which began last year as the government consolidated its ICT systems under the ICT Authority of Kenya (ICTA). An internal audit on government systems last year showed massive cybersecurity issues as well as lack of skilled labour to adopt to the fast growing ICT sector. “The Presidential Digital Talent Programme is in line with the country’s Vision 2030, the Jubilee Manifesto and the National ICT Master Plan developed by the ICT Authority,” said a statement by ICTA acting CEO Robert Mugo. “The internship programme offers participants an opportunity to understand the government, its organisation and government services to the citizens.” DIRECTIVE President Uhuru Kenyatta in February last year gave a directive to begin intense training for graduates in ICT. The Digital Talent Programme then commenced with 100 trainees, and the number has now risen to 400. The graduates will be fitted in to bring up to date skills gathered from the one-year private sector and government training. The government, in a circular, states that uncoordinated ICT systems have exposed the government to cybercrime. Cases of #duplication, #wastage and #difficulties in sharing government data are also rife as a result of uncoordinated systems. Graduates enrolling for the programme must be # Kenyan citizens, # graduated from recognised universities within the last two years, #with a first or second class upper degree. The trainees work with seasoned mentors for career guidance and are challenged to innovate with a view to enhancing public ICT services. Successful trainees get merit certificates and get preference in joining the public sector in ICT-related positions. Interested applicants who meet the criteria should apply through www.digitalent.go.ke. The applications opened on February 28 and will close on March 14.
