The way this fundraising has been done has left me thinking of whether it would be viable to design a system ("efundraiser") which would use the mpesa or any other mobile money transfer system to raise funds. The system would model a typical Kenyan fundraiser (harambee) where people meet and make their contributions only that it will be done via mobile and updates sent on a website. All contributions would then be posted on a website for all to see and followup as the event goes on. Given the way Kenyans like raising money using harambee and the current constraints being transporting people to the venue especially on fridays maybe this would be a cost effective method. And the person offering the service would probably invoice as a percentage of the total contribution. If this is done, probably I would now be able to attend all harambee's in the comfort of my office as opposed to going to the venue. Just a thought and sorry for hijacking the thread......
