Daniel, they can either be online (assuming you mean "Web-based") or offline (assuming that is "stand-alone" / desktop). So far, I have seen cases from both types. At the end of the day, I think the most important bit is to have a shared (relational) database to hold all your records. You may even have Mobile clients talking to it or anything else that can understand the information kept inside your stores. Martin.
