Windows Map Network Drive

Hello skunks and skunkettes.... I have a query, why is it that I can mount a hard disk of a node (192.168.* 177*.157) to another node (192.168.*177*.131) and both running on on Windows 7 P easily yet none of those can map to another node of a different subnet, that is, 192.168.*178*.34 or vice versa. Is there a way I *can map network driv*e within separate subnets bila a tussle of any sort? -- --Cursed be the day I was born if I do not learn a new thing today--*Chinese Saying* Regards, Adams John Opiyo.

I guess coz the subnets are different...???? On 14 April 2011 15:02, John Adams <adams.opiyo@gmail.com> wrote:

I guess defining static routes and opening the relevant ports on Windows Firewall or whatever firewall software you have installed (135, 445 I think) On 14 April 2011 15:25, John Adams <adams.opiyo@gmail.com> wrote:

Aha I see. But another tussle..all the nodes are behind a DHCP ...so I do I need clearance for that (with defining static routes), for I am way below Level 3 access ..:)..as for the firewalls..well the windows one is off.. I'm not very familiar with DHCP, but I believe that it should be possible to assign static routes using DHCP. Also check whether your antivirus solution has an in-built firewall like Kaspersky Anti-Hacker and allow the foreign subnet IPs access. Set subnet to 255.255.0.0. Note the LAN/netbios protos though because that is what devices on same subnet uses.
If they must be separate networks, may be difficult to pass netbios protocols. Wilson
