OT : Kenya's weather is back....

Many years ago the heavy rains towards easter meant one more thing : the Safari Rally. The current heavy rains bring back wonderful memories of those days either as service crew or spectators. There was a time when Group B cars such as the Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205T16 works would compete at International level right in this country. Then came the Group A with Lancia Integrale, Ford Cosworth, Opel and others. It used to be an experience to drive over 3000kms in just 4 days with some of the Teams, in some real tough terrian. And what would the Rally be without Chulu Hills where radiators got pasted with mud or elephant grass causing cars to over heat or rivers burst banks within a matter of hours or driving in the cherengani hills with fog hanging over the slippery trails. Kenya needs its rally status back. The natural tropical weather is back and sorry to those who will be affected by it but the good news is the weather is in its form. Corrections welcome.

It might be just a rare event. The effect of Global warming are a bit far reaching for as to make a conclusion that the weather is back to normal. Im sure during that time, there was total dryness in January, but this year, it was nothing of the sort. It was rain from Dec through Jan-Feb_mar_apr... So I think its quite early to make an explicit declaration of a normal weather condition coming back. On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 10:33 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Solomon, Shouldnt we just celebrate that the weather we all got used to is back, I think thats what Aki is talking about. Leave alone January or Dec, its been raining since October and you don't know how happy I am. This country will become paradise soon (just forget the stupid politics). ------ <?p3t3r On Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 10:42 PM, solomon kariri <solomonkariri@gmail.com>wrote:

Don't wait for success; hunt it down like there's no tomorrow.

And continuing with the thread.... :-) Easter, the heavy rains and the rally gave the motor sport world " the world toughest rally". Motor sport legends like Patrick Njiru, Ngunjiri, Joginder, Metha, Mikola, Mouton, Kankkunen, Biason, Waldegard are just some names that many can relate to in motor sports. The international teams loved Kenya, its people and would come back each year. Who remembers the Safari Rally or even the East African Safari Rally? We lost a great place in the international motorsport arena.. I had a complete video back then someone has loaded a tiny portion of it on youtube. Before you launch the video, you should know that the driver is legend Ari Vatanen in an Group B Opel Manta in the Manx Rally. His co driver is very skilled but lets out the famous words " oh! Dear God "....... because Ari just clipped the rear end of the car on the left side on that bridge almost going into the gates. Ari brings the car back with a tiny opposite lock. He later has to drive the entire stage on a damaged rim/tyre. What makes the clip so unique is that Ari is pushing the car well over 200kph ( you can hear the engine over-rev in in 5th or 6th gear and the engine is breathing very hard, those webbers are doing their thing ) and shows the level of control by a driver. Use headphones : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmhb4kHfAgc

@AKI - You forgot to mention father and son Vic Preston Snr and Jnr, the son shot himself dead somewhere in westlands a few years ago. Nick On 31 March 2010 09:53, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:
