Uploading a 400MB video file on youtube...

Hi guys, I have a 400MB+ video file that is in dvd format (.vob) and it is just 8 min long. There is no way I can upload such a size on my slow connection... Could someone please guide me on any tools for: 1. compressing the file (while maintaining "good enough" quality) to a size that I can upload easily e.g. 10 MB...or even less... 2. converting the file to another format (e.g. avi or m4v) Thanks, Timo.

ffmpeg , from experience using -sameg and converting to a different format like avi would a tad reduce the size. if your connection is stable (thats the key), you can leave it uploading and the utility to upload on youtube does a fine job of intelligent rentry On Thu, Jun 2, 2011 at 8:39 PM, Timothy Mutugi <timothymutugi@gmail.com>wrote:

First you need to convert it to mp4 (H.264/Acc) DO NOT USE AVI. and compress the file. A DVD file is nothing more than a video file, audio file and other resources eg subtitles and additional language files in audio. If your video has all that you can use DVD Shrink (its free) to strip everything else and leave just the video and a single audio file. You can compress the video down to 720p if you want it on YouTube with HD if not get it down to at least 360p at 24fps. If you dont know what you are doing I wouldnt advise playing with the fps otherwise the audio and video could loose sync. You can reduce the bit rate of the video as you compress it down to at least 700b/s Keep your audio a maximum of 128bits. Now if you are not comfortable with FFMPEG you can use VLC to do the compressions which is simple (no typing at all apart from the file name). --------------------------------------- Steve O Software Developer www.sobbayi.com ======================================= ----- "Timothy Mutugi" <timothymutugi@gmail.com> wrote:
