Brainiacs, Good evening. I have a Quintum VoIP Gateway and i am unable to connect to it and configure. I have tried HyperTerminal on 9600 and 38400 bps nothing happens. Tenor Config is not able to detect the device on both console and ethernet. Anybody who has dealt with the same and can get me out of my misery?? Thanks -- Regards, Sukali

@sukali, I've not used such a gateway but you should try the default port parameters 9600,8,N,1 on your terminal software. A good way to check these settings is to reboot the device, make changes and watch the screen. If you get any garbled characters, adjust the rate accordingly. These settings will usually work most of the time, ensure that you have the correct serial cable. HTHs. -- **-- Am now in self imposed exile from the KICT scene --Period! @Ken, back in the old days of serial comms, we used to build break-out boxes to sometimes determine data flows etc. It seems you are trying to use a standard rs-232 cable, and most vendors use the parameters I wrote earlier about. Buy a RS232 DB9 plug or even get an old cable, using paper-pins or crocodile clips, test each pin for its value. Do not put a meter to measure the voltages, it will load and blow the processor in the hardware. Set the terminal program to 9600,8,N,1 then use PIN 5 as the ground reference and first determine the receive channel or pinout, which should be Pin2. Once you are able to see the data on bootup, then you can do the same for send pinout which should be PIN3. You may also have to chane the flow control to RTS/CTS, so play around with the pins. Here is a guide on the pinouts : http://pinouts.ru/SerialPorts/Serial9_pinout.shtml Be patient and it will work fine. Remember

But, what does the RTFM say about configuring this device? It always accompanies the device. Sorry, Sukali, I could not google to discover why though I am greatly tempted. On Thu, Dec 1, 2011 at 17:01, Sukali <ksukali@gmail.com> wrote:

@Aki Thanks for the information. Will try that and let you know. @Wash The device belongs to someone who ripped it out of the box and threw everything away. Yah I know. On Fri, Dec 2, 2011 at 3:25 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:
