Has not been great for me of late. My link is supposed to be the 8Mbps fibre. But for the last 3 months or so, speedtests to any location outside of Kenya have given me speeds of 0.03 Mbps to 0.8 Mbps max (approx 10% of what I should be getting). @Brian, Advertised speeds are in Megabits/second while download/upload speeds are in MegaBytes/Second. Therefore; 3 Megabits/Second(as advertised) = 0.375MegaBytes/Second (385 KiloBytes/Second) 8 Megabits/Second(as advertised) = 1MegaBytes/Second(385 KiloBytes/Second) Considering other factors, such as contention ratio, the speeds could be pushed lower than what I've stated here and that should explain the 0.03 MegaBytes/Second and 0.8 MegaBytes/Second you are getting. One last thing,I do not work for them! :)) On 27 February 2012 11:48, Brian Ngure <brian@pixie.co.ke> wrote:

Correction: Obviously 1 MegaBytes per second cannot be 385 KBps,that was a typo. The correct conversion would be 1024KBps.Sorry for that. As for getting a raw deal from ISPs,it happens the world over so all we can do is choose the one with lesser lies! :) No really,I'm serious... What I don't understand is why Zuku does not have an alternative link to other cables like all the other telcos. I think 7 days without service is unacceptable. I have been a victim, and while they are prompt to send bliss and remind you by text, they seem not to be in hurry to fix the internet debacle. While I want to support local companies and their products, I am starting to feel that there is a lot of mediocrity in the their services and support. Zuku/ Wananchi is a classic example. They over-promise and under-deliver. I have been on their fibre for sometime and I am definitely going to move as soon as another provider hits my locality, which I have been told is soon. I have no issues paying premium for good service, but Zuku's service is wanting. Now 3 days without internet, 4 to go. I have had to resort to Orange modem of a router, which is a bit slow but reliable. It seems my area only has 2G coverage. Zuku has a theoretically very good product, but the simply don't deliver. I am not sure if it is enough international capacity they lack or it is just some other internal issues. The Cisco cable modes they offer are also bogus. I am used to good quality enterprise equipment from Cisco, but the stuff Zuku is on is just one cheap product. The things reboots every few hours, interrupting your internet stream. There is noway to update the firmware, Zuku have locked the interface. Their TV offering lacks relevant content. They seem to just have signed a contract with FOX (Fox TV and FX) and their movies offering is scarce and repetitive. The transition from one channel to another is not as smooth as DSTV, you change channel, channel changes and then 2 seconds later, it goes off for like 5 seconds then on. May seem trivial issue, but it is very annoying. Their electronic guide is also not accurate, I remember just last month staying up late to watch Pirates for Silicon Valley again only for them to show something totally unrelated. The interface is also lack intuition, the screen for movie and TV show description is too small and you have to keep on scrolling. But this is a notice to Zuku, next month I am gone.

I have an almost similar issue. If any other provider sorts out their last mile before Zuku fixes their core, then they stand a chance. At least with me. My biggest pain is that local loop. Fortunately for them the core and aggregation issues are easier to sort out than lets say for another operator to roll out fibre to my house.....either that or consumers and landlords start offering Internet like they do Dstv. Multihome all apartments to a minimum 3 operators. Sent from my iPad On 27 Feb 2012, at 13:23, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi all, Was wondering whether Genuine IDEOS accessories do exist in the market. E.g:- Earphones, USB cables, Chargers and such. I'd like to know for instance if IDEOS earphones are available, and where, and at what price. Anyone who can assist? Regards. Mungai S. Mbugua CTO Elimu Holdings Limited sospeter@elimu.co.ke

Did you already try that shop next to Malibu Chemist on Harambee Avenue? I am not saying they have, but being HUAWEI Service Shop, perhaps they will or may advise you rightly. * Malibu Chemist is at the junction of Moi Avenue & Harambee Ave., near Tuskys... I doubt the Huawei earphones are the best. Most new smartphones come with standards ports for the earphones/Headphones. I find the sound of the earphones quite squeeky. /Bonz On Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 4:50 PM, Mungai S. Mbugua <sospeter@elimu.co.ke>wrote:

I feel you Bwana Philip. The downtime on Zuku in a month is about 10 - 30% for me depending. And they are ever prompt at sending invoices! I wonder if they will give a concession on this month's bill due to this incompetence! Plus their customer care center.... no words at all! The customer care guys are there for you when you need them least! Its a bit of a farce really. On Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 3:53 PM, Memusi <tonatech@gmail.com> wrote:

I was willing to ignore the negative vibe when I signed up with them, hoping that I will be special and may be get better service. But how wrong I was. As I said, they have a good product that they can fix, but they seem not to be willing to do so. I have come to notice that as companies grow big, they become lethargic and slow to change, hence they never achieve anything. And this is typical of Kenya companies, unable to deal with growth. They become bureaucratic, and create an environment where nothing can really be achieved. Think of the City Council of Nairobi as a classic example. They should study large multinationals like Apple and Google, that continue to grow and leverage their huge revenues and economies of scale to offer better and innovative service. Maybe there is really a reason that Africa is third world! And don't blame slave trade or colonialism.

This time ZUKU got it wrong they need to be having a backup plan or plan B On Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 2:05 PM, David Nyamboki <tchadavey@gmail.com> wrote:

At the price Zuku offers their services, they should at least advise you that your service is mostly pegged on one cable, unless you pay extra, which I think is fair enough, as long as they deliver on that one cable
