OT : We no longer have characters like those in the old Bond movies. The millionaries are becoming so boring or going green?

Nation has this story : Kenyan ranch in the spotlight as widow seeks Sh900bn inheritance. ( http://www.nation.co.ke/News/Kenyan%20ranch%20in%20the%20spotlight%20as%20wi... ) Back in those early days, I'd get a gig to design a sound system here or there or do matv distribution for odd weekend jobs and sometimes it landed me, through references, a few really nice short gigs. I rememeber this ranch. Nation left out the private Lockheed L-1011 tristar plane that was fitted as a personal jet. And cheetah cubs were like pets. Got to see my first tiger at that time. lol! :-))) But what I remember most is the other name in the Nation Article. Some guy called Khashoggi and company who owned Ol-Pejeta. This place had its own 747-length landing/takeoff airstrip though I never saw it used the very brief time I was there. Rumor had it that our KE Airforce which is nearby had warned no craft to breach its zone but I guess when you have a flying office and know the powers to be, there can always be an exception. :-)))) We had some characters in our own backyard. Those days it was about showing financial might, the biggest spenders and making your name on Time Magazine Cover page. If you have ever watched the old bond movies like moonraker and the rest, you'd understand. Nowadays, millionaries are thinking about saving energy and the world through INNOVATION and the rest. Such a bore. :-)))) Post soon. -- www.projectskenya.info

To be honest I think to be this rich ones family needs several generations especially in Africa .... On 24 May 2010 10:28, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

@Watson,I don't think its that. Read how the Marcos family did it, while some guy in Nigeria who "inherited" an oil well does not know what to do with change like USD500million. Some "borrow" from economies while others are the players of supply/demand at top levels. The swiss economy was built on such. Difference is the old characters used to blow money on grand ranches, properties, jewels, expensive cars, yatches while the newer generations are smarter. Thats why I used the word innovation, green and probably "trying to save the world" which I consider as boring if you have that much money. Here is an example : Saddam's sons had a big warehouse containing collectors cars worth billions. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,377241,00.html On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 12:27 PM, Watson Kambo <wkwats@gmail.com> wrote:
