I dont know about opensuse -- but it should be very similar -- on debian / ubuntu setups you would have to : -- install server specific kernel image and headers -- remove the gnome / kde desktop

So, in Linux, a Server has a kernel different than a Desktop? All this time I've thought the kernel is the same across, but when you want to compile server apps, then you start pulling in some headers or .. yeah, whatever they call them. Sorry I am a bit ignorant on this.
From my playing with Ubuntu, I've never quite made a distinction between a server and a Desktop is not for installing the "server services". Is it assumed that X always introduces vulnerabilities on a "Server"?

Not really Wash, you can use the same kernel, the notion of the difference is because as a practice it is recommended that servers use slightly older and stable kernels.

I also doubt whether this is true. -- ˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ Regards, David Njuki @njukey [Google,Twitter,Yahoo]

Right. So apart from all the additional work to be done.. i simply cannot stand the look of opensuse. It's too..uncomfortable. I'm moving back to * RHEL* *5*. Unless someone's got a better suggestion on new server's? * W.* On Fri, Nov 4, 2011 at 6:22 PM, David Njuki <njukey@gmail.com> wrote:

Doesn't look like puke. It's more of a desktop system. I'd rather work on a system i know and have tested. I know RHEL is overkill for a small startup business but it's something i'm well versed with. Didn't try Zentyal, i'll install it once i'm done with this setup. I'm more of a tried and tested kind of person so if it's not been tested, i'd rather try it, set up on a skunkmachine and then go with it. Thanks for the input. * W.* [?] On Sat, Nov 5, 2011 at 11:20 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:
