Building a server farm

With the new fiber networks in place, shouldn't we planning to build a (superdome) server farm? For any of the following reasons: A central portal for Kenya online content. Real public/private webservice servers Public/private data warehouse Cheap local hosting Kenyan mirrors for all sorts of s/w etc. What would be the challenges in building one? It could be a collabo between/among big telcos, gava, individuals, the works.

If you remember my Mombasa "retirement" thread late last year, this is what I mentioned. My opinion is that there is no need for such, not at least for another 12 months. Hey, packets flowing between say CDB to Westlands ( on Seacon versus prehistoric routes via sat ) between different internet gateways helps no one. :-)

Sry, correction : Seacom routing versus sat routing. :-) On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 10:15 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Been a long time coming!... Exactly how could it be realized? On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 9:12 AM, Tech List Kenya<techlistkenya@gmail.com> wrote:

Interesting EOI from the government on today´s papers (Standard pg 43). NFPs/DCNOs and other infrastructure providers have a chance to partner with the government on a Neutral National Data Center (NNDC). From what I get, seems like KIXP and the stalled EAIXP might get a new home! Cheaper collocation services on the way..... M On 7/30/09, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:
