Anycast instance of the F root name server in Kenya?

Hey people, I came across a Map of all 123 DNS root server instances (including local Anycast instances) at the end of 2006 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Root-current.svg And there is a red dot on Kenya, one of the 3 anycast instances in Africa (two are in South Africa). Can someone pls confirm this? Where is this instance housed? Who manages it? What sort of technology do they use? And if this is so, this was implemented back on 06 when the fibers were a pipe dream?

Housed at KIXP. Transit provided by Wananchi (at least it was when I worked there, configured that transit myself) and AccessKenya (at least it was, when I worked there). Managed by ISC, mainly by volunteers like Joe Abley and Steve Gibbard. Michuki and Nick of KIXP (is he still there) were involved in the setup. I think Brian too, IIRC...but do they say? BR, S

Yes Kenya has two root servers and other TLD & ccTLDs root servers hosted at the KIXP. F-Root, J-Root, .com, .net and 37 ccTLDs on the pch.net anycast network. Where is this
instance housed? Who manages it? What sort of technology do they use?

Thanks Steve this is still the case.

Joe Abley left ISC and is now working at ICANN and will soon be rolling out L-Root on anycast as well. I think Kenya will get a node on that as well.
Michuki and Nick of KIXP (is he still there) were involved in the setup. I think Brian too, IIRC...but do they say?
Nick is still there. Regards, Michuki.

WOW! I am impressed! Now that those instances are here, where do they fit in in the internet infrastructure here in Kenya? What is the main reason why most of the root servers are in US? High bandwidth? Tech skills? Money? Legal issues? Is the fiber going to change anything in this picture? Sorry for asking so many questions; I find this information to be extremely intriguing :-) On Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 11:19 AM, Michuki Mwangi <michuki.mwangi@gmail.com>wrote:
