Dear @Angela,
Thank you very much for sharing the information below.
FYI: From an Orange Wireless Internet user, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Orange for their new network commitments. On 3g ( GSM ) the download speeds are still around 3200 to 4000 kilobits/sec while on the 21Mbps network near Westlands there were recorded download speeds of up to 9000 kilobits/sec and upload of upto 900 kilobits/sec.
That gives us the end users the chance to use under-sea fiber capacity in this order:
- On 3g ( GSM ) : downloads speeds = 3-4Mb/s upload speeds = 0.4Mbp/s. Therefore a 695Mbyte file takes around 15-25 minutes. - On 21Mbps network ( black modem ) : downloads speeds = 9Mbp/s upload speeds = 0.9Mb/s. Therefore a 695Mbyte file takes around 10 minutes.
I hope Orange will sustain this level of services on its network.
The internet concept of slowing down end users is a worthless model in these times. In a very simple comparison, internet and end users can be compared to the members of public and a single public toilet facility. The faster the person in the toilet completes their downloads, this gives the next user a chance to do the same at high speeds. Everyone gets a chance. However, the one who thinks they own the toilet at the expense of others needs to be sent to another public toilet where they will pay different rates. Who cares, they could do their business the entire day without affecting others.
Thank you.
Rgds. :-)
