Laptop locked to Safaricom modem

Hi Skunkworld, I have a colleague whose laptop cannot allow use of an Orange modem. She was using a Safaricom modem previously but when she tries to use the Orange modem, it gives a "No connection" message. She took her laptop and modem back to the store where they tested the modem on another laptop and it was working fine, but on her laptop, it doesn't work. They even used a different orange modem on her laptop to no avail. She bought her laptop from Safaricom. She has since contacted them although they claim that they do not lock laptops. Is it possible that they locked the laptop from using any other modem? -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

Maybe the settings are not correct that's why the modem cannot be recognized or alternatively you can uninstall the orange setup and run it again then go through the settings On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 11:19 AM, Shiro Njagi <sheeroh@gmail.com> wrote:

We've already done that but it's still not working. We even uninstalled the Safaricom Broadband application. -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

Yes it does. I'll need to check if it autoruns the software or if I have to manually open "Internet Everywhere" application -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

You can as well Right click the My Computer icon and choose Properties. Go to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. Is the *modem* listed here? Do you have any devices showing up as "Unknown"? If the *modem* is there make sure it's enabled and then double click it and go to the Diagnostics tab and click Query *Modem*. If you see values populating under "Command" and "Response" columns then the *modem* is probably working and you just need to tell the dial up connection to connect using that device. If the *modem* is *not* in the Device Manager then I would want to know what kind of computer you have. On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 11:38 AM, Shiro Njagi <sheeroh@gmail.com> wrote:

The modem is actually not listed. It's a Compaq Mini 110. Let me see about getting the drivers. -- Shiro Njagi The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. ~~Maya Angelou~~

You can get from hp website that is http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html then do a search of the computer model, you'll be able to locate modem drivers and you are good to go and have you ever formatted the laptop by any chance?
