everything is made in china ;) SEACOM's entire system uses Tyco equipment - Tyco and Alcatel are the leading (and maybe only) 2 manufacturers of submarine cable equipment. Submarine cable failures are inevitable - that's why people have (and should have) backups on separate cables. Massive outages only really should happen when multiple cables on the same route (eg Suez Canal) go down. EASSy has gone live and I talked to Alcatel-Lucent's Submarine Networks team,  VP marketing (Enrico Banfi) and Regional Director Gary Waterworth and they assured me that it comes with a 25 year warranty on the equipment. I also found out from a reliable source that Seacom (down 23 days now) is "made in china" and that they are worried as it seems all their repeaters(deep on the ocean bed) have a problem! _______________________________________________
