These is a laymans analysis and should not be taken too seriously... According the information above it would seem that at only 38% of tweets come from web clients i.e. twitter (30%) and dabr (8%).Of the 30% from Twitter almost have come from its mobile website (m.twitter.com). Those accessing Twitter from their desktops comprise at least 3% mainly from Tweetdeck and at least half of the 30% accessing the Twitter website from their desktop clients. Majority of the users seem to use mobile applications with the most popular being Snaptu (a J2ME app compatible with most Java enabled phones). Other apps include blackberry and Iphone apps. Implications ------------ Most of the moble applications run on expensive high end phones including the popular Snaptu app which would imply that the majority of twitter users arent your average kenyan or college/high school kids rampant on facebook. Majority are most probably educated and working and also given that most of these users are consistently tracking huge volumes of tweets on their timelines, the data transfered may translate into high costs compared to normal facebook usage. The data also shows that desktop clients aren't popular. This isn't surprising as most users are probably mobile most of the time and the functionality and speed of the mobile apps combined with ease of use (free bundle from safaricom) makes it the most preffered choice. Web clients are also not popular either with most of the users accessing twitter through web clients doing so as they are unable to run mobile apps on their low end phones. It would seem twitter users are more likely to respond to targeted advertising as they obviously seem to have the cash compared to users on facebook. Usage patterns and volume of tweets by users has not been included.
