Hi people, I got my hands on a brand new Acer Aspire One ZG5 but it seems to have a dodgy keyboard/track pad not all the keys seem to work. For example pressing “B” or “N” has no effect pressing “M” types \m. similarly pressing “J” has no effect but pressing “L” types “lj” in that order. Another example pressing “8” has no effect but pressing “0” types 8. Writing this I notice a pattern if I start from 8 and type downwards and diagonally towards the right crtl button, pressing: 8 – types nothing I – types iy K – types kn < - types ,b the trackpad is also moody – pressing the right button does nothing at all and the left button alternates between behaving like the left and then like the right. So first of all – could this be a software problem? The laptop came with windows xp home pre-installed and I received it brand new – box unopen – battery not slotted in – had to set windows up. Keyboard is set to US. Secondly – if the Keyboard is Gaza are there any official Acer dealers in Kenya who would respect international warranty and repair or replace the machine free of charge? ( I have the original receipts). The machine was bought in Sydney, Australia last Friday. Any suggestions would be appreciated – I don't really want to go into installing a new OS as if I have to return it I want it to be in as original state as possible. Thanks D -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com skype: d.were

I was afraid it would be a hardware problem! Anyone going to Sydney soon who can carry this back for me? :-) I will look for Tech Today On Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 12:26 AM, <habdi@onecom.co.ke> wrote:

While you're at it, don't void your warranty.
That's my fear Steve - how do I get this checked out without having to send it back to Australia while keeping the warranty in place? Well the closest Acer Workshop is in South Africa

It most likely is a hardware problem. Last I encountered such was a laptop with some liquid spilled on the keyboard. As for the dealers, perhaps someone else can shed some light into it.

Reddington Ltd are located around School Lane, somewhere behind Sarit Centre. They should be able to honor all Acer warranties, IIRC. You can find their contacts either through the directory or yellowpages, I guess. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Clothes make the man.
