@Tech List Me thinks it is time we got ideas from nature. We can develop small mimiature machines to mimick the bees, wasps e.t.c We have them loaded with cameras and remote control. Develop a sting capability to hold any chemical including a dose of Cyanide. In case of westgate, we would have released 1000 of them inside (like bees). From outside we guide them to the targets. Once a target is identified, a sting is delivered Do you think this would be viable? Am considering it for my phd thesis.

Would like to appreciate all the Sys Admins out there who have kept the country connected, in as much as they are doing their job. Kudos.
To creative movie going techies, is there another way this situation can be helped? I am getting nervous with every passing minute. I am told it's a military strategy to wear down the terrorists but we do have injured hostages.
Would jamming the network around that area do? Is there possibility the gang are communicating with the outside world and can we cut that off?
Do we have thermal cameras to detect the positions of the hooligans?
3D artists to assist in visualizing the building schematics?
What can the IT community do to help? Of course in addition to what we have done and are still doing?

I think the problem is rigidity in the methods of the police/army. Based on the training and technology they have, how fast can they adopt and deploy new technology like the "drones" without going through the procurement nightmares ? Second thing to consider, training personnel to control the robots and the drones. They will not allow those guys in KTN feature etc to fly and control these things for security reasons. Would they be willing to train or acquire IT staff (or defense arm) just for these sort of intelligence gathering ? Third, old school thinking may shoot down this idea because they may think that the drones may scare the masked-men into undue aggression.

+ 1 Ndungu With a few modifications, factor 3 would not even be an issue...maybe have them in the shape and form of an insect/bug. Did the terrorist even "black out" the CCTV cameras in place at the mall.

I dont think so. CCTV are usually placed quite high and out of reach and a good product would have battery backup and out of sight recorded images backup. So unless those guns could transform into super ladders ...

I also think there should be a database with ones profile including finger prints, facial recognition and even voice to identify people instead of registering the missing people. On Tue, Sep 24, 2013 at 3:09 PM, Cikz <jociku@gmail.com> wrote:

FYI, I've seen this video making the rounds. It offers advice on actions that you can undertake should you be in an active shooter incident. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcSwejU2D0 On Tue, Sep 24, 2013 at 2:22 PM, musembi <cembimutisya@gmail.com> wrote:
