Has anyone done a p-t-p link with Mikrotik SXTs? Any clue about their range (distance)? I just don't seem to be able to find this info online, perhaps wrong search keywords. I am looking at using these for an 8km p-t-p and will be most grateful for your advise. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 "I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler."

Moses, My question was quite straight and luckily, Haggai has answered it in the best way. Maybe you can start a new thread discussing Airmux?? Or maybe we can have a topic discussing these WiFi bridges, APs, routers - Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, Engenius, Ruckus, Airmux, etc.. On 20 February 2014 14:56, Moses <mosenetk@gmail.com> wrote:

Wash, Mikrotik is an excellent solution and is a breeze to config. Here's a tip from someone who installed these kit for years. Configure the equipment on the ground facing each other before mounting. Ensure there's connectivity and you can pass traffic through, then and only then mount it. Haggai 122K on a single hop is falling for marketers trap, the limitations are physics and land terrain. Show me a place you can get 122 Km LOS and then make sure no interference crops up from trees to buildings. Also find out what frequency certainly not 2.4Ghz or 5.7Ghz. Don't believe what the brochures say. Cheers On Thu, Feb 20, 2014 at 7:37 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

David, I've been working with wireless for 10 years now - my first hands-on Mikrotik experience was in 2004 as an undergrad and it's been paying my bills ever since. Over that time I've installed various wireless solutions for government, universities, numerous SMEs and residential clients - all as an entrepreneur. The 144km link I'm talking about is in Tanzania as a ptp for one of the telcos. I have screenshots of the link parameters - I don't spew stories unless I have hard facts. It's using Cambium PTP600 series on 30MHz bandwidth. With a good Fresnel zone and a knack for ACK tuning anything is possible. Exits pissing contest and drawing your attention to " It's using Cambium PTP600 series on 30MHz bandwidth", and what use is that for a non commercial user like Wash? Please advise on how much wash has to pay for the frequency over and above the equipment, and maybe type approval if not already in use in country? I rest .. Such a link would work at 8km but it will be susceptible to interference since there isn't a narrow beam width. If you really want to use such a link it would work best in noise-free areas. Also try a 40mhz bandwidth and enable nstreme for best performance. Nv2 does work but IMO has higher jitter than nstreme in noisy environments. It's better suited to ptmp setups. As a cpe the sxt can work with 15km on 20mhz bandwidth. YMMV. For ptp I recommend nanobridge or powerbridge or rocketdish (from lower to higher performance, in that order). With 34dbi rocketdish and a set of rocket m5s (non gps) at the back of each you can do over 80mbps tcp throughput comfortably over 40km. I'm giving figures for a link I personally set up. -- Haggai Nyang On 19 Feb 2014 17:29, "Odhiambo Washington" <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:
Has anyone done a p-t-p link with Mikrotik SXTs?
Any clue about their range (distance)? I just don't seem to be able to find this info online, perhaps wrong search keywords.
I am looking at using these for an 8km p-t-p and will be most grateful for your advise.

To add to that if you want extreme range and high throughput, try Cambium equipment. It's pricier however. Was showed some stats recently for a ptp link over 144km doing about 120mbps actual throughput. -- Haggai Nyang On 19 Feb 2014 18:44, "Haggai Nyang" <haggai.nyang@gmail.com> wrote:
