In this contemporary age of smartphones and tablets, how are the Japanese Electronics Giants like Sony doing?

Sony just had it's first profit in 5 years. But mostly that's because they're selling property and laying people off. The Japanese tech giants are in deep distress and in particular Sony is having trouble doing anything groundbreaking. They make great TVs but are just a bit too expensive and TVs are a commodity nowadays so that's not the route to the future. PlayStation didn't work out too well for them either. I don't know where Sony is at with a phone and tablet but it would take some real innovation to move forward on that front and they'd have to do something novel. https://twitter.com/varud https://www.linkedin.com/in/adamcnelson On Fri, May 10, 2013 at 10:04 AM, martin chege <mcnjoroge@gmail.com> wrote:

Late last year, some agency downgraded Sony & Panasonic debt ratings to junk status; a pointer to a not-so-bright financial outlook. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/22/us-sony-panasonic-ratings-idUSBRE8... Also, just look around at the visibility of their R&D activity, e.g. breakthroughs on OLED technology.... who's pushing the limits? The Centre has Shifted. The Koreans just stole their thunder.
