My definition of an intranet is a collection of web applications which perform some specific functions, accessible to a select group of people. Therefore, I would recommend you ask yourself this question first: Q. What functions are required on the intranet? Possible answers: Project management, notice board, all/some HR functions, email, document management.... the list can be quite long. Then after that, you might want to decide whether to develop applications that achieve those desired business functions ama get some FOSS/commercial software which does what you want, for example: activeCollab, vanilla forum, orangeHRM, roundcube, groupoffice etc Or, you could purchase an entire intranet product, something like Bitrix Intranet Portal <http://www.bitrixsoft.com/products/intranet/> <http://www.bitrixsoft.com/products/intranet/>If you follow the above, then your question will become more specific, e.g., how to make activeCollab and orangeHRM use one login.
