Guys, The other day I saw really good advice from people on this list concerning Home theaters Audio systems and AVs ... I have been on the verge of swapping my home system, which is really outdated now, for the last 18 months or so, problem is each time I get to the Sony/ Samsung outlet or check online I find out they have better new technology, For example last year HD, HDMI .. LCD hit the market, then am like Ok its too new let me wait a bit the prices will get to the Mwananchi Level. Later I see this super slim LED back lit Samsung and its wow .. then 3D hits the market, Now there is HDBaseT... Guys I would like to see your views on what you use Plasma LCD etc, what models, size of the Screens whats the experience etc anyone using a project for your house ? At least now I know what to go for in terms of a AV receiver ... I want to know the TV side now, DVD players etc -- Watson Kambo

Hey, Using a LG Scarlet 42" and a standard LG DVD machine plugged into a Harman Kardon amplifier and 5.1 JBL speaker system. The amp and speakers are almost 10years old but still kickass. Not intending to change them for another 10 years..ahhaha!! The LCD is beautiful with proper motion flow for fast action sequences (this used to be a problem with LCD's till about '06 or so). The scarlet has the trumotion feature that fixes this and also there is no image burn that used to be common with LCD's. I bought mine at the end of 2008 so that is close to 2 years come this Dec and absolutely love it. Only downside is that it does not have a internal HD to record output but otherwise has most of the standard features for an LCD of its time: - 1080p HD - 4 HDMi - Hidden speakers - Specific modes for various effects and also allows you to customize them to your taste (e.g: Cinema, Game, Sports mode etc) Have a great day! I have a Sony BX300 - 32" I use this with a WDTV Live which I connect my external HDD and my laptop and view the media files on my TV. This has to be the best device ever. Now I'm on the look out for sound. Since i want to do something once and for all, i will go for an AV receiver etc. -- Now, Mr Watson my advice, If you are going to get an LCD or Plasma or LED or those others and its going to be 32" or less... Go for a relatively affordable model. 720p or 1080p doesnt make a difference on this screen size. If you have the big buck, go all out. Get a 42" upwards of Good LCD. Make sure it is FULL HD and not HD Ready Something that is important to me is the TV Menu, thats why I love the Sony Bravia brand. -- My 2 cents On Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 15:44, Amarjit Labhuram <amarjit.labhuram@gmail.com>wrote:

Does anyone have this locally? Haven't gone to any of the Sony shops but will prowl over the weekend. http://www.sony-mea.com/product/kdl-40ex700 It has a DVB-T MPEG-4 tuner and Ethernet so you don't need the WDTV...obviously with the oh-so-lovely XMB...

Or get a Sony Playstation 3 instead of a DVD (aside from the TV you are looking for), it will HDMI and Blu-Ray all your content.. Plus you can put a huuuge external hardisk (which most systems cant handle) - so you can watch your Avis and play your MP3s off the shiznit - all you need to do to play other file formats is to download them codecs. Then you can also go online with a Zuku cable and watch series off the line.. aside from browsing.... You can also connect to your computer(s) and do other stuff you want. And the pads are wireless and act as a kick ass remote... better than any dvd player in the market - right ? Your choice. Need I go on?

I'm aware of the PS3 angle but as James said earlier - audio has to count! I'm thinking along the lines of a blu-ray home theater. From another perspective my gaming is on PC since a PS3's graphics is not all that (I've compared a PS3 and a Radeon 5850 on a HD screen - believe me)...so that did not win me over. Unless the PS3 came with a kick-ass set of speakers :P As for hard disk connectivity I'm looking towards network storage access as opposed to USB...if the EX700 can't do it then a WDTV should be the way to go. I think I saw this TV in a shop at Westgate, not sure I remember the name of the shop though. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

@Haggai, I doubt it will have the DVB-T component, since Sony says it's for SGP only, so what I saw might be a different model than this one. It had WiFi and Ethernet port though. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

The iHub, a LAN party perhaps also featuring a game of Counter Strike?

Definitely people,, all that remains is for the moderators to say "Aye" and the eyes will have it on that day... As a matter of fact, the event could be coincided with the Skunkworks monthly meeting, complete with guest speaker and all,, but this time, Dennis and crew can host that Game and Mbuzi as a *twist* <like Shamalayan movies, except The Last Airbender [?])

Thanks guys, Am a bit biased to the Sony model for the TV, just coz I have this believe its like the best design, but again the super thin LED back lit Samsung just blows me off, I guess I will go for the 42'' and above size and pray that my future child does not hang on it or throw a missile at it. Problem is if you compare the prices of samsung and Sony then Samsung wins I wonder if the quality difference is the same. Dunno which Bluray DVD make I would go for ... but again if I get a PS3 or maybe an Xbox 360 ... But all in all I guess I will have to check for HDBaseT at least most models are coming with the Internet Widget ... I can stream movies online .. I guess but then my Zuku has to have higher band width ... anyone on 3D yet?? What about Projectors I see they have reasonable prices and they come with most of these functions...
