PetrolTracker: locations of petrol stations in the city

We need locations of "participating" petrol stations in the city. It would be great if someone volunteered to harness the info and generate a Google/Bing maps mashup. I put "participating" in quotes because we need to decide who gets to be part of this: does *anyone* who sells petrol qualify? Or only licensed/recognized dealers? Only ones within the city-center? Questions in need of community answers... Saidi

Let me see if I’m getting this application correct, you wish to collect prices of petrol/diesel from various petrol stations in different locations into a database then service queries from ‘saving’ motorist on where to get the best deals. Am I right? I could help with the SMS angle as I work in a company that deals mostly with SMS systems and have had a lot of experience on appropriate formatting of SMS for application interpretation. Thanks Alex for the offer. The prices will be submitted by the users, and somehow ranked/sorted/authenticated by the system (the details are still being worked out on one of the threads on this list). Regarding the SMS portion of the project: please see the thread "PetrolTracker: SMS" and share your experience. Saidi On Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 2:17 AM, Alex Mwega <alex@ims.co.ke> wrote:

Any takers on this (locations)? As mentioned in another thread, we prolly shouldn't use data from petrol.co.ke without his permission. Having said, it seems fairly trivial to get started at least with some locations, e.g. going to the websites of some of the known franchises, mapping the locations on Google/Bing and emailing the map link. This is a critical piece of info waiting for an owner/driver... Saidi On Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 2:56 AM, saidimu apale <saidimu@gmail.com> wrote:
