Own a car, then determine the correct tyre sizes. A tyre size calculator....

As it affect fuel consumption, performance, sluggishness, cornering etc. Important is the outer diameter. Someone wrote a nice calculator. HTHs you at some point. :-) Which also bring me to this : From a tech point of view and using the correct tools, what should be the correct tyre pressure for a given tyre size, terrian and temperature ( as the air inside a tyrer will expand with heat ) ? I think 28 psi for regular is too standard and everyone here seems to go for it. http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual-tyre-size-calculator

Without any supportive argument,Tyre size 14(tubeless) i do 35 for rear and 30 for front.. Is that by any chance wrong.. On Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 1:02 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

@Steve, I think subaru seem to be the only sensible ones to give the correct sizes and pressure on that sticker. :-) Maybe you could do help out, if the sticker has the info. I've gotten a set of Oz wrc rims, 16inch and the profile that can fit is 195/45/16, keeping the same diameter as the default 14inch. These tyres are mwenda kabisa priced but even I ever decide to go for them, what would be the correct pressure used for city and highway driving during a cool morning and a hot afternoon? Cheers.

AFAIK you should be able to do up to 215/55/16 if it's a Legacy. Impreza, I'm not sure. Will check for you and reply offlist. BR, S -- Sent from my socks®

@Steve, asante sana. Just to add to the pressure dilema, there are tyre wear issues. If under pressure, then wear in in the outside of the tyre tread while over pressure and wear is on within the centre of the tread area. If tyres say give upto 40,000kms - 60,000kms then an expensive tyre is worth it. Not driving like a rally ace nor drifting, I think a tyre is good for about 4 years @12000kms per year, given some potholes and uneven road surfaces. Imagine if you have to replace a quality tyre within a year of buying it, and all due to incorrect pressure. And safety is compromised due to : - if under pressure : more swaying into corners and risk of tyre burst as the side wall takes the twisting forces. - if over pressure : less tyre contact with the road, during rainy season and hard braking, can cause sliding and loss of control. There are many factors on each and can be googled. And local tyre vendors tend to be interested in a sale, rather than info. As an example : http://www.michelin.co.uk/michelinuk/en/car-4x4-van/tyre-pressures-what-happ...

@Josiah, hehehe..! that is correct, the default sizes and pressure in on a tag sticker. :-) IMHO, The problems start when : a) Changing RIM size b) Changing Tyre Profile Size c) Smooth Ride versus Economy d) Economy versus safety e) Safety versus performance And pressure seems to be a crazy topic. How detailed do we get to achieve the correct pressure. Asking local tyre experts, opp tyre importers, has not helped much before. Also, petrol stations tend to give different PSI readings with their pressure facilities which makes it more difficult to know.

IMHO, should not be a problem, if you follow the info on the door sticker or the owner's manual.
And pressure seems to be a crazy topic. How detailed do we get to achieve the correct pressure. Asking local tyre experts, opp tyre importers, has not helped much before. Also, petrol stations tend to give different PSI readings with their pressure facilities which makes it more difficult to know.
Now that's true. Recently I checked my pressure at one station, which had the old-fangled dial type gauge. Wasn't satisfied, so went to another place where they had the digital gauge. That one showed me I'd over-inflated each tyre by 14 PSI, and I corrected that. Just up the road, decided to triple-check with another digital pump, and now that one showed under-inflation.... I think Weights and Measures dept. should randomly check if these gadgets are correctly calibrated, since it's got a direct bearing on safety and economy. BR, S -- Sent from my socks®
