there is a version that comes with oracle. That is the one I am looking for

depending on ur needs for oracle, check out http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/index.html .It might free u off the explicit need for redhat Oracle Database 10*g* Express Edition (Oracle Database XE) is an entry-level, small-footprint database based on the Oracle Database 10*g*Release 2 code base that's free to develop, deploy, and distribute; fast to download; and simple to administer. Oracle Database XE is a great starter database for: - *Developers* working on PHP, Java, .NET, XML, and Open Source applications - *DBAs* who need a free, starter database for training and deployment - *Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and hardware vendors* who want a starter database to distribute free of charge - *Educational institutions and students* who need a free database for their curriculum On Wed, Sep 2, 2009 at 10:58 AM, James Mutuku <listmutuku@gmail.com> wrote:

Just a point of information, I expect that you are looking for the OS as you already have a license. For all that I know, Red Hat is proprietary; at least to the extent that you won't run it effectively without a license. On Wed, Sep 2, 2009 at 11:09 AM, Kiti Chigiri <kiti.chigiri@gmail.com>wrote:

James, If you have good internet, just download Oracle Enterprise Linux - also called unbreakable linux (free) - from oracle. Its based on redhat just like centos and is in the ver 5.3 last time I checked. Then download oracle for linux (10g or 11g) and you are good to go. Installing oracle sw on the Oracle Linux is seamless since the required packages are already in the iso. If u use redhat you have to look for some of the rpms urself and it can be frustrating. And the kernel is already optimised for oracle so there is less kernel hacking. On 9/2/09, m mugo <mugo2of3@gmail.com> wrote:
