Safaricom data network - always on edge

Skunks, Is it only my observation or is the safcom network always reverting to edge quite often. Are these effects of the CCTV project being allocated data bandwidth? Its quite frustrating .....

Not the case at all from my end, the switch between 2G/3G usually depends on the signal strength of the 3G network that your device is receiving. Should the 3G signal strength fall below a given threshold then your device will switch to 2G and then back to 3G when the signal reverts back to normal. So it might be that you are either in an area with weak 3G coverage, or something is up with your phone's antenna. You can optionally lock your device to the 3G network by choosing *WCDMA only* under network mode settings if you are certain that signal strength is not the issue and that you will not be going to an area with no 3G coverage otherwise utakuwa mteja! *Kind Regards,* *Edwin Kyangangu* *- - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * On Tue, Mar 17, 2015 at 1:59 PM, Josphat Karanja via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Some android phones only let you set the "preferred network". To force your phone to 3g : 1. *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> preferred network -> WCDMA only if you go outside of 3g coverage you'll be mteja though . -- Ndungi Kyalo On 17 March 2015 at 17:31, Josiah Mugambi via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

@Nguku. I understand the switch between 3G/Edge. My issue is that it happens all the time almost everywhere. Initially it would happen in certain "densely" populated areas which is understandable. But now it is all the time. I have tried this on different devices to the same effect. Anyone from safari com technical here? Regards ........................................................... I too have experienced this issue, it started almost a month ago. I used to have full 3g in my house but now edge shows up most of the time. Nelson, Maybe the newly acquired spectrum will ease the issue. ./bernard On Mar 17, 2015 11:33 PM, "Nelson T via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
Mmmmmmmmmmh very interesting.
Maybe signal strength. Can you force your UE to 3G and watch the bars if they will drop.
Its important to note that the bands used are different.

hello,
I too have experienced it, especially within the past 2 month. The 3G signal which is normally strong were i am suddenly disappears then reappears. And I am not in a densely populated area

@Nguku. I understand the switch between 3G/Edge. My issue is that it happens all the time almost everywhere. Initially it would happen in certain "densely" populated areas which is understandable.
But now it is all the time. I have tried this on different devices to the same effect.
Anyone from safari com technical here?

Some android phones only let you set the "preferred network". To force your phone to 3g :
1. *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> preferred network -> WCDMA only
if you go outside of 3g coverage you'll be mteja though .

As far as I know the CCTV is on its own dedicated network
Might be a network planning thing. On 17 Mar 2015 14:16, "Edwin Nguku via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
