Guys, We have the Science Hack Day [ http://www.sciencehackday.com/ ] coming to Kenya. Here's the site http://www.sciencehackday.or.ke/ It's a hack-a-thon with cool prizes for either winning individuals or teams. Free food and beer(beer at the end only). Hack ideas can be added here [ http://www.sciencehackday.or.ke/post/2012/jan/23/add-hack-ideas/ ] The event is all booked but am holding on to about 30 tickets just for Skunkworks. Email me at mmwanga.kennesaw.edu if you don't have a ticket yet and would like to reserve one. We also have the awesome Ariel Waldman [ https://twitter.com/#!/arielwaldman] from San Francisco coming to speak at the event. Thanks! -- Morris

Matt Biddulph [ www.hackdiary.com ] has also confirmed attendance [ https://twitter.com/#!/mattb ] for the weekend. Martin.

Hi guys, Here is one of the hacks done in Science hack day, Nairobi - 2012 that ended yesterday in the evening [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag7w0vgZj5g&feature=youtu.be ]. It is basically an animation of flights for some elementary particles that result from a radioactive decay inside the Large Hadron collider. It might be of special interest to Python coders since it was done using Mapping libs (Python base-maps), Matplotlib (plotting and graphing), Numpy and Scipy (Scientific number crunching). The frames were fused together using ffmpeg at 25 frames per second to create the movie you see. The actual events are scarily fast (99 - 99.9999% the speed of light)!! Find the full Source code here: [ https://github.com/chiteri/shdnbi_lhcdatahack ] Me thinks it makes a nice screen saver! :-) Martin. On 3/27/12, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com> wrote:
