Someone send me one of the many forwards of what our cellphones can do eg dialling 112 for emergency via any network regardless of which one you belong etc . Got me wondering, is it possible to do as below and if yes how does it work? Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

I know of a couple of car alarm products that allow you to lock/unlock your car via a text. - One commercial product retailing at I think 30-35k (not sure) locally - can also do GPS based tracking on demand. - & (Anyone remember) Morris Mbetsa - he's developed one: http://www.instablogs.com/morris-mbetsa/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4WXL0KAhQ Josiah Mugambi +254 738 504418 http://blog.josiahmugambi.com * SK Classifeds... Actually this could work if the keyless entry devices use Ultra-Sound. However, due to the many disadvantages of sound as a signalling medium (mechanical generation, interference, distance, inefficient power usage etc), i highly doubt any serious car-lock system would be built on it. Secondly, thinking about it even more closely, the GSM network is designed for verbal communication - (20Hz-20kHz maximum). Thus the sampling and filtering of the input sound actually removes higher frequencies which are regarded as noise (plus also to reduce the bandwidth needed for any conversation). In this case, the Ultra-Sound would be filtered out even before getting to the network. Davis On Thu, 2009-08-13 at 15:45 +0300, Josiah Mugambi wrote:
