When I feel like working for a good period of time(or extreme programing? mh h...),I dont even think that a normal laptop is that convenient enough. We are too much carried away with the hype, majority will give popular reasons to go for tiny things. For me: -Screens. -Keyboads.(small,delicate,) -Navigabilities.(shortcuts, arangements,) -Compatibilities. -Multitasking. -Distance range from the eye. Only when I`m away and feel like this is the only thing available.Good for consumers,and distributers.(games, social networking products, mobile operators,music etc). You may have notice most people are ditching point-and-shoot digital cameras in favour of smart-phone cameras. According to flickr, the most popular camera on the site is the iPhone 4. The quality of these cameras has really improved and in some cases in now better than standalone digital cameras.

But as Wash say, tablets get much more done. They have the power and screen real-estate of a laptop, but the portability and connectivity of a smart-phone. With the myriad of Apps available, you can virtually get everything done on a tablet that you do on a PC. Myself I am able to to remote desktop, SSL, VPN, networking tasks with an iPad and hardly bother to use my laptop when I am not in the office. They are also very good for email. I find the iPad email client much better than any other, including Outlook and the web-based one.

So there you go, there are many different motivations. But the greatest of all is simplicity and convenience. And to others, prestige.
