I have an iMac (on Mavericks) that immediately on boot, and after the apple logo, goes into a gray screen, and does not progress past this. A hardware test shows that nothing is wrong (though i know that this is a very basic test), and I am currently trying to do a restore from Time Machine backup (6 hours away). I am operating on the assumption that if it is a hardware error (video card/memory/HDD) it will show up at some point during the restore. This may be a very wrong assumption. So, in the meantime, has anyone on the list experienced anything like this? And how was it solved? Secondly, in case this does not work, who are the best guys in town for repair? What Discreet GPU are you using? Had problems with the AMD 6750M GPU on two 2011 MacBook Pros, now I'm looking to replace the Logic Boards. Well, one refused to boot up past the grey screen that shows up after the Apple Logo, while the other one keeps drawing grey lines across the screen and hanging every so often requiring at least two to three restarts. Had that exact problem with a 2011 macbook, exact to the detail you describe. Mine would suddenly surface, i restore and then the problem resurfaces. Not sure if it was ever sorted, but i suspect it had to do with hardware. Sent from my iPhone
