Skunks I wanted to know what are taxes/ duties if one brings computers into the country. The last I checked they are supposed to be zero rated but what does that mean. Regards Kevin Omondi

Only computer parts are zero rated but fully assembled computers are supposed to be taxed On Mon, Jan 17, 2011 at 11:49 AM, Kevin Ouma <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

a router is a stand alone device or periphery device and is taxed but things like ram, mother board, processors should not be taxes because they create employment in the computer assembly industry On Mon, Jan 17, 2011 at 12:32 PM, Douglas Ogeto <douglas.ogeto@gmail.com>wrote:

Ok; in short, if you can - tell the importers to take apart that router, or computer,, and import it in parts... And there is your loophole [?]

there is a specification on which computer parts can be imported tax free On Mon, Jan 17, 2011 at 2:11 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

Erick, We are not talking about what can create jobs or can't. We are simply talking about the law as it presently is: only fully assembled computers are exempt from duty and VAT while parts are not.

Fully assembled computers are exempted from taxes but computer parts are not.
