hell hath no fury like a programmer scorned

Just curious, how often do programmers in Kenya get shafted (either forced to) by project stakeholders? I would like to hear some stories. I have enough to write 'a Peeling Back the Mask - Njuguna Njuguna.'

This is the time when you write a comment then you get to realise your stake holder is part and a member of the mail list. woi

if the stakeholder is part of the mailing list, he should be named and shamed. On Fri, Aug 10, 2012 at 12:01 PM, Benjamin <anangwe@gmail.com> wrote:

@ David Dig back in this list; spanning about 4-5 years,, you will see some interesting stories... <use the right search key words - like 'shafted' 'contract' 'intellectual property' - and some Companies in the list of shame>

Which brings me to this: I have been thinking about this; I am one of the many that are on the 'shafted/not paid for work' list. Since we are such a mob, why don't we come up with a guild for IT startups/consultants. Pay the guild a monthly fee of a few 100s bob and put one or two lawyers on a retainer? We can structure it this way: * Say we have 500 members and each person contributes 200 bob/month ~ 100, 000 KES. * If you have a need legal assistance; for a non payment complaint or want some help setting up a business, you pay a small fee (~ 1000k to prevent abuse of the system) and the rest is covered by the common pool. * To prevent new/transient members from abusing the system, set up a minimum initiation period (~ 6 months) after joining where you either pay a higher fee or have restricted access to the system. * We can also provide advisory services to members. For example, a client black list to prevent future abuse. On Fri, Aug 10, 2012 at 6:04 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

It always comes down to "Who will tie the bell around the cat's neck" - like many other ideas in this list that have been suggested and never saw the light of day in the past. The other problem i foresee is that many would not be willing to send money to people they have not met. Thus the best thing would be for list to suggest IP (intellectual property) Lawyers that are sympathetic to the IT cause .. This way one would be *strongly* recommended to approach them before negotiating any deal, with promise to retain once a Skunk decides to engage any company.. BR/// SNN
